Gettin Started, A List Of What You Need To Start R/C Banger Racing.
This is a simple guide on what you need to get into R/C Banger racing & upgrades we recomend fitting.
Mardave V12 kit, although the kit starts it's life as a Hot Rod the kit is easily made into an r/c banger, we recomend that yoiu get the Escort RS shell as this can be used at the all ford 1600 open.
Two Nylon front bodymounts, a V10 Rear H frame style rear boody mount.
Ball race the rear axle.
Tyres, the standard kit tyres all round will work ok, other tyres recomended are precision silver/gold/red or ufra se tyres for the rear, with either precision gold/orange fronts. Ruogh the wheels up with sand paper or a file, this helps when glueing the tyres, adult supervision should be sort when glueing tyres, we use evo stick, thin layer on the wheel & inside the tyre, then slide the tyre onto the wheel.
Steering, the standard arms are not tough enough, a V7 mod kit is what you need, some touring car arms fit also. The servo saver should also be changed to a kimbra type saver.
Motor, either the standard G1 or G2 motors are good for racing. Heat sink on the motor helps keep them cool as they get a bit hot !.
Connectors & wire, although the standard kit item is sufficiant, we recomend they are replaced with a deans style battery connectors. The wire should also be replaced with 12awg or 14awg sillicone wire. If your not sure of soldering please ask us & we will be willing to help you out.
Gearing, either 50 tooth spur gear with a 14tooth pinnion work well round our track, or a 46 tooth spur gear with 16 tooth pinnion works well.
Radio gear, any two channel radio gear can be used, futaba 2er is the most popular., you will be allocated your own frequency when joining but you will need at least three other crystal frequencys.
Cells, any 4 cell with a maximum capacity of 4200mah, depending on your budget there are many types & you will need two packs at least.
Charger, there are many types, again depending on your budget, most are mains/12volt or can run on a power supply.
Some basic tools are required, phillips screw driver, flat head screw driver, 1.5mm allen key driver, long nosed pliers, 1.5m nut driver, soldering iron/solder.
All you need now is a bodyshell, there are many types, we keep r/c bangers to all the old material, Westys, jags, Grannys, Rovers. no modern stuff !
See the bodyshell list to see whats available. The shells are white & made from ABS plastic, most people use dremels to remove windows. You will also need a roof fin plate for your race number, any number can be used & that will be your race number all year aslong as no one else has it.
